Community Partner – Cystic Fibrosis Queensland
Project: Printing of a junior fiction novel ‘Mega Man’

The junior fiction novel was a resource aimed at primary aged school children to help them better understand Cystic Fibrosis (CF).

Mega Man helped develop an understanding of CF with school aged children giving them an insight into the condition, daily routines of living with CF as well as heading off to hospital and highlighting that CF does not define the person that has it.

This helps to reduce the social isolation that children may feel due to their condition or social disadvantage that other people may associate to kids with CF due to the medical regime they have to follow.

Prior to the publication of ‘Mega Man’ there were no other resources available in primary schools targeting this age group to assist with the understanding of living with CF.    This resource will now be place in primary schools in Queensland that have students living with CF.

Community Partner – PCYC Mackay
Project:            Bike Education Program

The Bike Education program was for grade 4 and 5 school groups in the Mackay area.   It enabled the youth to participate in a program which provides them with the skills to safely negotiate the roads as a bike rider.

The program was specifically designed to encourage participation, develop responsible behaviors and attitudes for safer bike riders on our local roads.

New bikes, helmets and tools were purchased.
This will assist us to continue to offer this valuable community service.
Teaching the children bike skills also encourages a healthy lifestyle.
